  • INFO FROM CURRENT OWNER'S

Indie is someone’s next heart dog.

She’s smart, silly, up for adventures AND cuddles all while staring lovingly into your eyes.

    Her *perfect* home is:

    • a place with a dog that matches her play style and compliments her personality (an active, happy go lucky kinda dog)

    • Ideally she’d have a doggie door and access to the outside

    • She LOVES water so even better if there is water on the property.

    • I think she would fit into families of any age or size but likely would be happiest with older elementary school(+) kids that are up to something she can be involved in.

    • She would love to live on some property to stretch her legs without having to see too many dogs she isn’t allowed to play with on walks and where she can just chase the squirrels.

Over the last few months her adoptive home has been battling some chronic significant health issues and now insomnia. As you can imagine- it is rough. Indie’s normally endearing bombastic nature is a bit at odds with this difficult season of their life. While she does well in the home and is a great companion, even in the best of times, her current situation isn’t her perfect home.

Her current home is pretty quiet with a chill 4 year old girl. She loves this little girl, but they mostly ignore each other. The daily rhythm is a run or walk, staring out the backyard window while her family is away for the day, and hanging out as a family for dinner and beyond with squeezed in play or training. She likes her enrichment toys- lick mats, chews, ect. She’s started clicker training- it is going well enough, but it seems to be a bit of a bore to her. Her dog sister and her are cordial but mostly ignore each other.

She gets to go for walks or runs each day but does show leash reactivity to other dogs on leash and/or at fence lines. She really just wants to play with them and is frustrated a leash is holding her back. She seems receptive to training/modification for this but it is difficult in her current home where walks are shared with an 80 lb dog and 4 year old. Instead, she gets very early morning and/or late walks where traffic is minimal on the block- she can sniff around the block forever. She will run on leash, and has gone up to 5 miles, but is pretty distractable. She mostly doesn’t pull, until she does (for a squirrel or a good sniff).  She has intermittent access to a large field where she loves to stretch her legs- she sticks around and comes back when called. I’m pretty sure if there was something interesting like a deer - she would love to chase it, so she is keep on a 30 ft lead for safety. As an Aussie, she’s less Velcro + tight check ins and is more out exploring and using her independent brain with some acknowledgements you still exist around her.

She lives with a backyard with chickens in a pen and at the very least is willing to intensely chase them. She has gotten out with them a few times and all are still alive, but it is always a little stressful for all but Indie. We are unsure how she is with cats at this time. She LOVES all dogs that love her, especially puppies.

She goes to doggie day care where she is said to be a 10/10. She loves the car, loves the woods, and isn’t afraid of anything. She’s great for nail trims and is tolerant of handling in a way many Aussie’s aren’t! She was kennel trained at her former home. We kept her in a kennel at night for a while, but once her life got more boring as our health issues spiked, we let her in the bed with us. She is a great cuddler, hogs the bed, stares at you like a cat, and will French kiss you when she sees stirring. As a morning person, none of this was an issue for me until insomnia struck the family. In her previous home she was a night owl- so she can adapt

  • INFO FROM SILVERSIDE AUSSIES

Indie has never, ever met anyone who she considers a stranger & loves everybody. She is on the shorter side, but is very bulky & pushes her weight around. Indie is medium-drive & medium-high energy. She is goofy & clumsy but absolutely gives her all & will play fetch or go on any adventure with you. INDIE LOVES WATER!!! We have a 40g water bowl because it is really just her personal swimming pool. She will dive in headfirst every time. She is also a trash can & will happily help you clean up any leftovers you have on hand. She will lounge on the couch & is the best cuddle buddy because she loves to touch me, but doesn't smoosh me & is respectable of my space... except for toes. Indie likes to enter doors quickly & seems to go out of her way to stomp on our toes every time. She is respectful of personal space at all other times usually. She is confident but sometimes that can be too confident for other female dogs. Indie also does not know a stranger dog, which means she sometimes misses their social cues, which makes them uncomfortable. Indie would do best with male dogs & submissive females because although she is not aggressive, but also won't be pushed around either. Indie does really good around the house, but when she needs to go, she needs to go, so she may need a refresher in housetraining if being exclusively inside. She uses the doggie door, has access to a fenced yard, is great in her kennel, on leash (initial pulling, but settles quickly), off leash, in public, or by herself. She would prefer to always be near-by with her classic Aussie personality. Her coat is wavy & stays very clean.

Good with kids? We have never had kids younger than 8 nearby. She is generally very, very friendly.

Does she bark? Indie sounds like a squeaky porch door more than she barks. She does alert bark, but its very easily managed & she give you the "look of shame"

Dominant or submissive? She is confident with other dogs. Will stand her ground & can be pushy in a "doesn't know her own space" kinda way. like a bull in a china shop.

Energetic? high drive or couch potato? High energy, medium drive. Great "off-switch". Does happy, bouncy circles when she is excited, usually before going in & out of doors, hence why she steps on toes 🤣

Does she stay inside or outside more? She sleeps in her crate for 8-9 hrs per night. She is inside & outside equally throughout the day. We have a doggie door.

Crate trained? Yes. Housebroken? Yes, may need refresher because we go outside often or have the doggie door

Does she have any training or basic obedience? We practice dog psychology & our dogs are very well behaved & have very good manners. They know things like "sit" "no" "wait" "down" "come" but they could use some "lay down" or "stay" refreshers

Does she know her name? Good at recall? She knows & picked her name. She responds without fail & comes every time. We use their names to call them into or out of doors & spaces individually, so they use their name very often.

Friendly, shy or unsocialized? Very friendly, can be almost too friendly & intrusive, but is generally very respectful.

Any behavioral issues or concerns? none at all. Indie would do well in any active home that has love & time to spend with this amazing girl.

  • SEEKING RETIRMENT HOME

Some of our Aussies will stay here forever, but some will need a loving home someday. Our dogs are our children; We LOVE them with all our hearts; We are VERY particular as to who our dogs go to, so much in fact you must be within driving distance of me in case it doesn’t work out we will jump in my car in a moment's notice to pick up our dog. If you are interested in a retired dog please know that we will require you to personally come to our home to spend a few hours with us and the dog (or potentially vice versa). If we feel it’s not a good fit we will issue a Refund of Principle & Deposit payments IMMEDIATELY. Our dogs are VERY special and deserve to go to loving homes where they will be spoiled and shown affection daily because they already have that here, but we want them to have more individual love than we can provide with our program. If we feel you and the dog would be a good fit please know that we WILL be emotional and we ask that you truly understand that we love my dogs and hope that you will stay in contact with us from time to time. Just because we are rehoming does not mean for one second that we will stop loving or thinking about them.

If you are interested in adopting one of my retirees, please feel free to apply. & let us know you are considering an adult & we will reach out when we are considering one to rehome so you can come meet them (even several times) & make sure its a good match. We try to post our adults in advance (typically 6 months or so) so we can have a long time to evaluate potential placements to give everyone time to consider. We do charge an adoption fee based on the individual dog, and do require you to sign a legal document that you will give the dog back to us should it not work out. Sometimes we offer discounts on Adult dogs to prior Silverside Aussies owners & even deeper discounts to Owners who own a puppy from that dog 😉 All adults come up to date on vaccines, groomed, spayed/neutered, and microchipped.
